Hi Everyone,
We know 2028 is a way away but nonetheless your FAS committee (or a sub-committee thereof) is starting to look at what we might do to celebrate our centenary year in 2028. We have set up this webpage to keep you informed and to exchange ideas.
Ideas to date:
- Try to link up with Creative Folkestone’s 2028 next Triennial in some way shape or form. Perhaps our exhibition as a stimulating art installation? Discussions with them are ongoing – your ideas welcome.
- At the least – have our own centenary exhibition within our Autumn Exhibition that year.
- Have an exhibition of FAS alumni paintings through the ages. Possibly targeting 100 pictures to hang. We will need your help in who might be included and your ability (if any) to loan paintings to us for the duration of that exhibition or your knowledge of who we might approach in respect of the same whether individual or institution.
You should know that we have already approached:
- Local museums
- The Royal Academy
- Folkestone Library and Museum
- Chartwell (now controlled by The National Trust) in respect of Winston Churchill.
…we’ve had nothing back yet from any of them.
- Delivering/getting on with booking one or two keynote speakers. We have already approached Tracey Emin – we’ve heard nothing back yet. Do you have any ideas on who we might approach to deliver an opening or keynote speech?
- We have gone through FAS archives (such as they are) and are approaching local authority and district council archivists and curators of local collections.
Delivering something that marks the ‘centenary spot’ is important to most of us. We, your committee, act on your behalf. Your committee has no monopoly over what we might do but we do have a budget which, although limited, will enable a celebration. If, I believe, we are awarded a place as an exhibit at the triennial, we may well also secure a certain amount of funding along with that. Your input and assistance is critical to the success of any event. Please do give us your ideas or help us develop the ones above.
