Artist: Laura Froude

This masterclass is for practicing artists who want to further develop their work it is not suitable for those starting out. Part of my philosophy as an artist is I learn all the time and this workshop is about a dialogue between artists as well as a sharing of professional practice.

Beforehand:
Find personal sketches, photos and notes of a place you have visited which resonates this will be the basis on which to develop work. When choosing this inspiration focus on the light and colour you recorded and try to remember what you felt at the time. Find the pattern and points of interest in the landscape as your composition will need to take the viewers eye on a journey. Bring these with you.
I look forward to sharing sketchbooks as part of the session.

On the day:
We will work in Acrylics on canvas board, card or very thick paper I recommend to bring either square or very long surfaces rather than the traditional rectangle it will promote abstraction.
We will look at base colours to establish the mood and atmosphere.
We will find the patterns and abstract shapes from within your source material.
We will look at mark making using a range of brushes rags and even sticks and feathers.
We will look at composition rules old and new.
For all artist whatever stage you are at when transcribing our world owning the space of your canvas is often forgotten due to so much distraction and our natural instinct we will discuss this.

Laura trained at Goldsmith’s and promotes the ethos in teaching of bringing out the personal creativity that is within fellow artists and students.
As a successful teacher she went on in her career to involve creativity in different aspects of leadership and strategy within education in the areas of Secondary, Further Education and Local Government.

These years of sustained graft enabled Laura 12 years ago to get off the work treadmill and to follow her dreams to focus on painting, travelling and family life.

Laura and her husband have developed Froude & Froude as a strong brand and have both retained their individual practice which when combined produces unique ceramic vessels made my David and glazed by Laura. These vessels when combined with Laura’s paintings provide a unique contemporary interior.
