Artist: Angelo Pizzigallo

The light of darkness

Angelo Pizzigallo is a professional artist and teacher based in Deal. His paintings (portraits and landscapes) are colourful, vivid and robust. He enjoys exploring the relationship between the place, the passing of time and emotional memory.

In this masterclass session titled ‘The Light of Darkness’ Angelo will lead participants to explore light effects and atmosphere using Gouache. We will look at simple shape making and angle finding in the drawing using: colour washes, dry brush, filling shapes, painting dark tones (shadows and details), painting highlights, light on dark and broken colour mark making.

Open to: Everyone! No experience required. The session will be of particular interest to those wanting to try or extend with Gouache.

Where and when: 15 July 2023, 13:00 to 16:00 at Baptist Church, 135 Hill Road, Folkestone CT19 6LY. Free parking is available.

What to bring: If you wish, you can bring your favourite nocturnal image to reference. Gouache paint (Winsor and Newton is good, Dr P.H.
